Going to Mashpee Commons? Do NOT miss having a bite at Trevi Cafe
We have only been to Rome’s Trevi Fountain once, but we have found ourselves looking out onto the slightly less famous fountain, which may have been some
of the inspiration in naming Trevi Cafe at Mashpee Commons, on many occasions Spring, Summer and Fall.
Yesterday’s visit to return an unwanted purchase to LLBean, one of the many great stores at The Commons, once more gave us the opportunity to make a pit
stop at Trevi’s. Actually, our trip down from Yarmouth Port, a simple 25 minute drive, had been planned around our priority of lunch at Trevi’s, one
of our favourite spots. Of Course the fountain is always left off during Winter – one appreciates it most during the many months of being able to dine
outside.
However, the interior of the Cafe has a warm, modern and friendly ambience. There is attractive seating including at the bar, and at a number of high tops,
which we love. Conventional seating at dining tables is also available.
By the way, service is always efficient and friendly, and Sunday even more so. The preamble of ordering drinks is a universal one, but a more pleasurable
one at Trevi, that is a tradition here! There is doubtless someone knowledgeable behind the wine bin selection. It never disappoints and is beautifully
balanced between European and New World wines. We selected a glass of Montagny 1er Cru and Nicholas Feuilatte Champagne, both of which we know well
from our former life in France, to start our lunch.
Food? The dishes, whether appetizers or main, all have a certain flair to them.
The choice between them is always a difficult one, except that the duck taco was chosen without drawing breath. We also chose the crispy potatos and
a superb grilled pear and Gorgonzola salad. We finished our meal with capuchinos and a share of our favourite desert, the toffee and chocolate torte.
We haven’t enjoyed a meal so much in ages
Trevi Cafe is not the only reason to visit Mashpee Commons. It is a shopping town, beautifully designed and constructed, which has lots of the big name
stores as well as small gift shops and a great book store. It is fast becoming a community in itself. For pure shopping, its architecture and its cafes,
it is always one of our favourite outings on Cape Cod, and also for a great number of our guests.
